Bring on the baseball players and fans – the PSP fields are getting ready for some games. Opening Day is April 1st…no fools about it. The fences are up, the dugouts and bleachers are in place, and the scoreboard is ready to shine. The infield mix is being spread for the running lanes and pitcher’s mound. And the sponsor banners line the outfield fence in support of our teams, giving it all that real little league feel.
Join the fun for the Opening Day Ceremonies. The inaugural game at 10 am features two Winnie Little League teams: Port Bolivar Red Sox vs. Winnie Angels. The Grand Opening Ceremony follows at 12 noon with a Blessing of the Field, and the US Coast Guard presenting the colors as Haley Comeaux sings the National Anthem. Afternoon play resumes with a Pitch Ball game and two T-Ball games. And be sure to stay for the 6 pm exhibition game between the Port Bolivar Red Sox and an alumni team made up of old-timers who played on this very field before it was destroyed by Hurricane Ike. The day-long baseball classic ends with a huge fireworks show, compliments of Ray’s Fireworks.
League Commissioner Leslie Lowe would like to extend a big THANK YOU to those who made this all possible; the sponsors, the volunteers, and the dedicated and hardworking members of the PSP, bringing back America’s Pastime to the Peninsula. Let’s Play Ball!
