The outdoor shower

There’s nothing like an outdoor shower! How did we live in the city all those years without one? When the kids return from the beach, it’s so easy to go jump in the shower and scream for a beach towel. My son commented on the variety of shampoos and conditioners ready and waiting, watch out, there’s doggie shampoo in there too.

A few weekends ago, my husband and I were sitting on our deck enjoying a cocktail, when our neighbor and her 3 boys strolled back from the beach pulling their wagon full of beach toys. Mom turned on the shower and all the boys were sent in together with their towels as Mom began bringing stuff upstairs anticipating her drive back home in the morning. “Mom, Mom, it’s too hot!” Ignoring their plea, she yells over her shoulder, “No, it’s not.” A few more choruses of “too hot” … Mom is on her second or third trip upstairs, “Mom, Mom, do I have to use soap?” Not missing a beat, she yells back, “Don’t come outta there naked!”

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
