(Dec-27-2011) Just thinking about the irony of Christmases in my life mixed with the Armed Forces. Going way back to Christmas ’54, we were waiting for my father who was in the Air Force, his plane went down in Alaska, never to be found … A Christmas doesn’t go by without thinking of him (Daddy).
In 2001, we were absent one – my son-in-law who was in Korea with the Army, defending our country. He happens to be the “meal planner” for the family. So without him around, and doing the whole Thanksgiving dinner-thing only a month prior, none of us planned our Christmas dinner. We decided steaks would be good; my daughter thought I purchased them and I thought she did. Needless to say, we scrambled on Christmas Eve to find food somewhere. We managed with the help of Denny’s and Walgreen’s ice cream…we still chuckle about this one.
Now, on Christmas Eve 2011, we await our other son-in-law’s return from a three day flight away – a whole 10 hours time difference. He’s in the Army, off defending our country and protecting us all. The last call from him indicated he was in the States and his loving wife, his 3 year old daughter, and his 1 year old son were getting ready to pick him up from the Army Post. It’s a very Merry Christmas.
To all Armed Forces, Happy Holidays, and thank you for being such an important part of our families, we are blessed.
Merry Christmas to All!
