The Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting was held last Thursday at Jose’s Cantina Restaurant. The meeting agenda included a year in review of the Chamber, and a presentation from Commissioner Darrell Apffel about the announced redistricting of the county precincts. This was followed by an election to fill two open Board positions.

President Brenda Flanagan highlighted the Chamber accomplishments for 2021:

  • Membership: 165 Businesses members and 28 Individual members. 29 New Businesses joined.
  • Two successful fund-raiser golf tournaments
  • Lunch and Learn for members with presentation by Galveston County Small Business Development Center
  • Representation on the Galveston County COVID Business Task Force
  • Attendance at Commissioner Court Meetings and Emergency Services District Meetings.
  • Worked with State officials on Legislative issues which affect Bolivar, such as the Golf Cart Bill, Coastal Spine, Property Tax Relief, and Hwy 87.
  • Started a media campaign to help promote tourism on Bolivar.

Commissioner Apffel reviewed the two redistricting proposals

Commissioner Apffel reviewed the two redistricting proposals to be voted on by the Commissioners Court the following day. In either case, Mr. Apffel would no longer represent Bolivar Peninsula, however, he vowed to work closely with the new Commissioner to help him understand the issues unique to this area.

Brenda Flanagan is stepping down from the Board after many years of distinguished service. “I did not seek re-election to the Board. At this point in my life, I feel I need to focus more on my family. It has been an honor and pleasure serving as President of the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. I would like to thank all the individual and business members as well as many friends for your support and encouragement. Please continue to support the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce as this group of volunteers do try to help make Bolivar Peninsula a very special place to live, work and play.”
