The last couple of weeks, I took advantage of the foul weather, wind, and fresh water conditions to take a few days off for projects. I went back out this weekend scouting for next week’s trips and found most of East Bay very dirty with the salinity content near 0 at the top. Near the bottom, the salinity is remaining at survival levels for the southwest end of East bay. The east end is totally fresh but the remaining fish are around the south shoreline areas and oyster reefs. There are a lot of gafftops on deeper shell. Most of the south shoreline reefs are still holding specks but a lot of them are small with a few keepers scattered in. Some birds are also working with incoming tide movements in the afternoons. Chartreuse plastics and Vudu shrimp under a cork are working good. Pictured are trout which I released that hit the chartreuse Down South plastic.

The jetties will probably offer better fishing for several weeks as fish are moving out of the bay. Live shrimp will be the best bait for the jetties if you can get them.

Surf fishing is good now with reds, speckled trout and sharks being caught at the beachfront. Miss Nancy’s Bait camp will have you covered for surf fishing bait and tackle.

For those that have taken my class, we are in mid summer patterns with tough fresh water conditions here to deal with now. Don’t forget to ask for your updates before you go out. Fish are concentrated in smaller areas and are on the move some now and you will waste time hitting every main reef.

I have some days now open July and August for reserved private on the water classes. Reserve your time now as we have had to work around the persistent strong winds and storms to conduct classes in the best conditions.

We will spend a half-day trip exploring that bay and the techniques and timing of fishing there. Bring your hand-held GPS and a map and note pad and I will further your knowledge of the bay and patterns for fishing in all of the seasons of the year.
