Captain Bryan’s Fishing Report, 9-8-2020

By Captain Bryan Brawner
Galveston East Bay is in exceptionally good shape after dodging the bullet from the hurricane. There was a small tide surge but I think it helped the overall health of East Bay. Southwesterly winds were blowing hard for a good part of the following week but the winds turned from the northeast by Friday and the holiday weekend leaving the water with good color and clarity throughout the bay. I returned my boat to the marina after the service and maintenance work was performed by the professionals at Jorgensen Marine in Beaumont who did an outstanding job as usual. We had some good trips over the weekend with lots of catching but there are still lots of throwbacks to go through to get the keepers.

I look for an outstanding fall with good quantities of shrimp in the bay already and some birds starting to work around schooling fish. There are lots of gafftop catfish and small specks now but you just have to keep moving while keying on bait activity with slicks to grind out the keepers. We are mainly using soft plastics with Down South lures being the preferred go to bait.

For those that have taken my class, take advantage of your included support now before planning your next trip as there have been a lot of changes this year in fish patterns. We are beginning the September pattern and what I talked about and timing is still good but there are some changes that are working for now unless the forecasted cold front this week is unusually strong.

I have some days still open toward the end of September and October/November prime times and also some opportunities for classes. On the Water Classes are the Best time you will ever invest in to improve your fishing success for the long haul! I have added some special features this year!

Fall is booking up now with prime days for some of the best fishing of the year still available.

This time of year we can run trips where the whole family can be successful with a large variety of fish. Email for questions and availability. Now is the time to book an East Bay Class with the prime fishing just around the corner.

For exact fishing locations and techniques, I am conducting one-on-one classes of the Galveston East Bay System. We will spend a half-day trip exploring that bay and the techniques and timing of fishing there. Bring your hand-held GPS and a map and note pad and I will further your knowledge of the bay and patterns for fishing in all of the seasons of the year. These classes include everything from locations to tackle and lure selection; thus have a lot of content. So, I limit them to 2 persons max at a time. Call 409-256-1265 for more information. We cover a lot of area and burn a lot of gas.

Text or call 409-256-1265 for availability of trips and to reserve your fishing adventure. You can also e-mail me [email protected] for updated fishing conditions and trip availability.
