Captain Bryan’s Fishing Report, 6-30-2020

By Captain Bryan Brawner
The rains every day last week really did not hurt the fishing conditions of most of Galveston East Bay in the long run although the runoff to Trinity Bay remains on the high end. I used up my 9 lives fishing through thunderstorms in my younger days. We canceled most of our trips and classes last week due to weather conditions/lightening threat, but Captain Alan Hall got out between some storms and winds for a quick limit of specks. I think that he is one of the best young upcoming guides and tournament anglers on the Texas Coast and I always recommend him.

We will be starting this week taking some police officers fishing with Roy Crush and Texas Boys Outdoors Show. Always a blast helping them out!

For those that have taken my class, we are in a “mid summer pattern”in the bay. Trout are good on most of the mid bay reefs drifting slicks with Down South plastics. Live croaker have been working when you can get them but you can’t count on it with the bait camp situation now. The best bite has been early, late and around tide movements in early afternoons. The Galveston jetties continue to be the hot ticket right now for most species and larger specks.

We have by no means recovered to the level of fishery that we had a few years ago but the health of the bay is really looking promising. Larger fish are filtering back in to East Bay from the jetties and beachfront so hopefully we won’t have another fresh water flush out any time soon.

Fall fishing looks to be setting up for outstanding fishing trips! September will be here before we know it and some of the prime times for fall fishing are starting then. Fall dates have started filling already so it’s not too early to reserve and lock in your time for a fishing trip. I will also accept a limited number of weekend charters beginning mid September.

I have some weekdays still open in August and also some opportunities for classes. Classes are the Best time you will ever invest in to improve your fishing success for the long haul! I have added some special features this year!

This time of year we can run trips where the whole family can be successful with a large variety of fish. Email for questions and availability. Now is the time to book an East Bay Class with the prime fishing just around the corner.

For exact fishing locations and techniques, I am conducting one-on-one classes of the Galveston East Bay System. We will spend a half-day trip exploring that bay and the techniques and timing of fishing there. Bring your hand-held GPS and a map and note pad and I will further your knowledge of the bay and patterns for fishing in all of the seasons of the year. These classes include everything from locations to tackle and lure selection; thus have a lot of content. So, I limit them to 2 persons max at a time. Call 409-256-1265 for more information. We cover a lot of area and burn a lot of gas.

Text or call 409-256-1265 for availability of trips and to reserve your fishing adventure. You can also e-mail me [email protected] for updated fishing conditions and trip availability.
