Weren’t famous authors alcoholics?

By Georgia Osten
I was talking to a very famous author the other day, and we, well, She came up with this realization. I’ll call her Cutie #1, because that’s what she is. I don’t know if she has a glass of wine when she writes, but I usually do. But, wait a minute, don’t go jumping to conclusions. It’s normally into Happy Hour when I finally sit down to write my stories. A little glass of wine helps get the creative juices flowing. Ha Ha, get it? Juices?

Before I get too far into my thoughts, I need to tell you something I noticed the other day. I ventured out to Galveston last week to go to WalMart, then to Kroger. At WalMart, they only had one entrance and exit, and it wasn’t at the Garden Department where I usually park. That’s okay, I enjoyed the walk. On my way, I passed many people in masks and gloves. Typically, we tried to pass at a distance and everyone in the store tried to keep a distance away from others. But what struck me most was that no one would look you in the eyes. It was almost like they thought we’d transmit something by simply looking at one another. I can’t help it, but what it made me think of was “living in California.” That’s exactly how Californians treat each other. There’s absolutely no acknowledgment whatsoever. That’s okay I guess, maybe Californians know something about the way we should be treating each other after all. Maybe this will be the NEW way of living.

Anyway, in Kroger, one of the employees was going out of her way to greet people and be friendly. She greeted me twice in approximately 2 minutes. I must say my Kroger experience was a lot more enjoyable.

Let me interject this here, so you won’t think I’m totally irresponsible, I carry hand sanitizer in my purse and my car along with Clorox wipes. Speaking of Clorox, please tell me if you see any Clorox Spray around, the kind in the green plastic bottle.

I ran into a dear friend at the post office on Monday, it was all I could do to not throw my arms around her and give her a hug. We kept our distance, very awkwardly.

I’m trying to remember any of the last events we went to where “this” wasn’t such a big deal. We had the sand castle building contest where large groups gathered to have a good time. Then, there was the wine tasting over at the Mouton’s, what a good time with good people. Missing those times, yep! The famous Author was there as well.

So back to talented authors, I’ve got another one, Cooks! How can you possibly cook without a glass of wine? Julia Childs for one, and BAM! – Emeril. Not that I’m a famous Cook, but I do like to cook A LOT!

Y’all be safe out there, keep your distance from one another – This too shall pass.
