I’m amazed at all the different styles, trends and fads. A fella walked in my office the other day, he’s just a regular Joe, lives at the beach, does handyman-type jobs around town, came in to talk to me about the Crab Fest. I remarked, “Bill, you must’ve paid a fortune for those jeans!” They had big worn out holes on each leg around the knees. He said, “No, these were his favorite work jeans.”
I mean, these days, women (especially) pay a fortune at Neiman’s or wherever for these jeans with holes in them. We gave our daughter-in-law a gift certificate to Nordstrom’s because she wanted a new pair of old jeans.
Heck, I can remember the bell bottoms, the ones that hung off your hips, and how cool it was to have Mom sew lace or ruffles or something at the bottom. It was the coolest. Or, you could actually buy them from the Navy surplus store.
What I can’t get used to is the BLING jeans. I mean it’s okay if ladies wear them, rhinestones all over the back end, pockets and half way down the leg. But, when men wear bling jeans, I’m a little taken aback. Even the ones with stitching on the back pockets is a little suspicious.
Here’s the other thing, which I’m happy to say I don’t see a lot of anymore, is the pants worn down around the hips or, in some case, further. These are usually worn with some colorful boxers underneath, the ones where it takes one hand just to hold them up. The other hand is usually holding a cell phone. It makes you wonder exactly which one they’d let go of in case of an emergency?
Brings to mind all the cutoffs you used to see. There’s even a song written about “her cut-off jeans,” I think it’s a Kenny Chesney song, one of my favorites – a Yoo-Hoo bottle rolling on the floorboard.
Interesting fact: Levis only have 5 belt loops and Wranglers have 7. Go Figure!
I always thought only cowboys wore Wranglers, really tight ones. I’ve come to realize Wranglers come in relax fit also. Who would’a thought?
