Mothers Day

Happy Mother’s Day to every Mom reading this story. Our daughters are grown and have grown children of their own, so trying to juggle that one day for Grandmothers and working children became a problem some years ago. Both of the girls and I have enjoyed spending the first Saturday of May touring the homes of Galveston for many years. In fact, for years we volunteered as docents for a home and then toured the rest of the day. At one point we had two grandkids working alongside us. You always need someone to say, “watch your step” or “Thank you for coming, have a nice day”.

Back to my thoughts for this week, I know it got harder for the girls to try to be with us and their children for the day. So one day I said, let’s do a Mother-Daughter’s day on the first Saturday of May so we can be together, home tour, and have dinner. We have been doing this for several years now and it works well for everyone. Number one, I am not preparing a big meal for 13 or so people and Number two, I do not have to clean house before everyone shows up! Yea. I am taken out for dinner and my ticket for home tour is paid for, life is good. Sunday, Mother’s Day becomes my day to rest and I get to enjoy being taken to dinner by RR and he is not having to foot the bill for all those people. I know that sounds bad but there comes a time in life when we “older” people need to remember how hard it was for us to make the rounds of all the Grandparents.

To my beautiful daughters, Happy Mother’s Day, and try to enjoy the day and not work yourselves to death. Love Mom
