The subdivision was rockin’ on Saturday, April 28th, as Wayne and Diane Blanks hosted the First Annual Driftwood Charity Gumbo Cookoff. It was a beautiful day and a lot of fun was had by all!
The Blanks’ property and the entire block was jammed with tents, cars, trucks and golf carts as everyone turned out to either compete in the cookoff or enjoy their neighbors, the wonderful food and spirits of their choice. The entertainment was provided by The Port Arthur Playboys zydeco tunes, who could be heard into the adjoining beach subdivisions, as two-steppers danced across the patio under the house and out in the yard.
This year, the event brought in 20 teams of competitors. Each team paid $100 to enter the contest with the understanding that if they won, they would donate the money to a charity or charities of their choice.
The first place team, Screamin’ Mimi’s, generously donated their $2000 prize to the Crystal Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all those who participated.
Diane says, “We plan to do it again next year and it will be bigger and better!”
