We’re not sure how it came up missing, but our big pool mysteriously disappeared Mother’s Day weekend. It was probably the winds that carried it off. Grandkids and our golden retriever make it necessary to have one around. With record-breaking hot days coming, we’ll all be looking forward to soaking in the family pool.
I went up to The Big Store in the SUV, purchased the pool and carried it out to put it in the car, only to find that it was too big. I carried it back in and told one of the managers it wouldn’t fit. “Well, why’d you buy it then?” she asked. Good point, I thought … My only reasoning was that I just had to have it – end of story.
She let me stash it out of the way while I went back home to grab the golf cart and some clothesline for tying it to the top. There I was, struggling with the string, pitching the string over the top and trying to grab it underneath the roof of the cart, when this gentleman came up and offered to help me. I probably could have gotten it by myself, but it would have taken me an hour or so the way I was going.
We had a bit of a language breakdown, but we basically understood each other – according to me, I only had to go poquito. And according to him – lento. Which I took it to mean “don’t be in a hurry.” I crept away from the parking lot and crossed the highway carefully, making it home – so proud of myself and so thankful for this fellow coming out of nowhere to help a little ol’ lady trying to get a pool home for the grandkids.
What’s a Grandma to do?

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
