Somewhere about mile marker 725 on Sunday, I remember that I am retired now and this was a stupid idea to leave on Sunday, especially first Sunday of Spring Break. But I am on the road and not turning around. I did get my sister up before 10 am. You see, I am the morning person and now at “her” age she is the noon person. That means she does not do early morning or late evening. I know, I know, I’ll be there before long too. We left Blanco and headed for CR 473 and she was driving. It was wet and misty, a fun start to a trip. By the time we made Kerrville the sun was shining and we were happy and laughing about everything.
Next day we are heading through El Paso, construction everywhere, Dolores said, “Sure glad you are driving.” My thought was, so am I. We made it to New Mexico and their nice travel center, really nice people and very helpful, the rest stops were very clean and nice. There is a sign leaving New Mexico saying, “thanks for visiting.” BUT there isn’t a sign “Welcome to Arizona,” nor is there a visitors center, nor are any of their rest stops open. What gives with Arizona? Sure glad I sent off for all the magazines on line. From the Van Horn to Arizona we are enjoying the mountains and deserts. There is an area in Arizona on I-10 called, Texas Cannon. Wow what unusual rock formations, sure wish I could have taken pictures but the bridge was only one lane on both sides and the traffic was backed up for miles. My sister took pictures out the window with her “new” phone. Let me just say, too funny, she does not quite have the hang of an I-phone yet, but she did not drop the phone on the road.
Wednesday, we decided not to take I-10 to Bisbee because of all the construction, we wanted to take the scenic road. Beautiful mountains with snow, switch back turns, and good roads, thank goodness. Bisbee was a mining town, and now it is a town of people that never left the 60’s. That is not what the brochures said! What false advertising. We drive around the mountain town and never left the car. Sure glad the “Hotel” I wanted to stay in was booked.
On the road again, heading to Tombstone. Stay tuned.
