Galveston County Commissioners approved the appointment of Dr. C. B. “Bix” Rathburn to serve as the Director of Economic Development for Galveston County. The position will provide leadership for the adoption and implementation of the county’s economic development plan. Dr. Rathburn has most recently served as the President of the Galveston County Economic Alliance (GCEA). David Murphy, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the GCEA, expressed support for the expanded working relationship with Galveston County and its commitment to a larger county-wide economic development effort to compliment cities and local economic development organizations.
Dr. Rathburn will remain housed at the offices of the GCEA during a transition period to ensure that the organization continues to serve as an active and vital asset to economic development. County Judge Mark Henry stated that, “Today’s actions are the beginning for enhanced economic development and success across the county. We look forward to working with the cities and local economic development organizations to make Galveston County the top destination to live, work and play in the region.”
