If you live in Crystal Beach or anywhere on Bolivar Peninsula, you should never say you’re bored. We always have something going on, even in the dead of winter. We’ve been retired for a little over two years…granted the first couple of months were a bit “ho-hum.” We were trying to find our paths, we tried surf fishing and I was scared to death, especially going past that second sand bar where I was under water on the way out. Ruby would follow – no problem for a 3-legged dog. Needless to say, neither of us are fishermen, it was easier to go buy from the Bates down East Canal – “they need the money,” right? I hear they’re on a cruise.
Anyway, what I’m getting at is that there is no way you can just sit on your bottom around this community. We’ve joined a non-profit organization with three major events each year, not to mention the little exposure projects we get ourselves into like cookouts at garage sales or the Jane Long Festival. The Texas Frog Festival is coming up this weekend and we’re checking the weather daily, praying we get the tents up, get all the security we need, find somebody to handle parking – it’s all benefiting Lone Survivor, such a justifiable reason to have a music festival. Right around the corner is the Texas Crab Festival, our 29th! It’s a Home-Town Festival – our own!
If you’re not involved in anything and you think you may have a little time on your hands, why not send us a note. We could sure use you, and believe me, you won’t believe how rewarding it is to get involved! It’s what we’re all about over here on the Peninsula – We’re Bolivar Proud – We’re Back!
GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
