A New Moon will dawn on the 1st of January

We start the first day of 2014 with a New Moon. This is a rare occurrence when the Sun and Moon are aligned on the same side of the Earth. The Moon is “new”, and the side of the Moon visible from Earth is not illuminated by the Sun. A New Moon will dawn on the 1st of January signifying the dawn of the New Year.
