“On fire” at Crystal Beach Baptist Sunday

by Darlene Nelsen
If case you heard there was a fire at First Baptist Church Crystal Beach, you could be right…or wrong. Church members arrived Sunday to find lights dimming or off. After Entergy came and went, correcting a faulty transformer leg, the smell of an electrical fire filled the church as lights and sound equipment were turned on. Several competent church members who are contractors checked things out but were unable to pin down the cause so Crystal Beach Volunteer Fire Dept. was called. One of the volunteers responding was Electrician Billy Shipp. How very fortunate is that. The problem was determined to be a burnt motor in an a/c unit. Malcolm Comeaux, Fire Chief of Pt. Bolivar VFD rolled in as back up and Peninsula EMS sent their ambulance down “just in case.” The firemen were waved to and cheered as they left. Thank God for them and all our peninsula firemen, 100% of whom are VOLUNTEERS.

Church members are seen waving wanting all to know that they ARE on fire - on fire for the Lord that is! Service afterward was almost held outside due to the beautiful weather.
