Shannon O’Brien has won so much money at the Tuesday/Thursday Par 3 contests at the Ranch that he views them as sort of a part time job. On Tuesday, 9/17/13, O’Brien showed why he is the favorite to win the Rancho Caribbe Homeowners Association sponsored tournament on October 5th by firing a 3 over par 30 to edge Michael Comeaux and Mike VanZandt by one shot. John Milby had a 33 and Jason Pettit finished at 34. Dabney Harrison, Mike Mitchell and Paul Williams all shot 9 over par 36’s. Local golfers have been wondering what has happened to John Milby’s golf game. Usually deadly on the Par 3 courses, Milby has seen his game slide in the past few weeks. Dabney Harrison’s putting woes continue to relegate him to “B” player status while head golf pro Mike Mitchell continues to tee it up as an “A” player, to the dismay of his teammates. No timetable has been set for Harrison’s return to “A” player status. Golf writer Mike VanZandt continues to falter on the greens, missing literally dozens of short putts in the last six weeks.
Stop the Presses; Mitchell Wins Only Skin!
Head Golf Pro and artist Mike Mitchell birdied the first hole with a nice fifteen foot downhill putt that won him the only skin on Thursday, 9/19/13, at the Ranch. Mitchell, whose troubles on the links have been well chronicled by this writer, took home $80. Michael Comeaux won low score with a 31, beating John Milby by two shots and Dabney Harrison, Shannon O’Brien, and Sonny Wong by four shots. Mitchell fired a 9 over par 36 to bring him back to earth after his early birdie. Mike VanZandt hacked his way to a 10 over par 37 while Jerry Riddle shot 39 and Don Cork had a 43.
