And Oh what a day it was!

First Day of School for Galveston ISD and oh what a day it was! The skies exploded early Monday morning with lightning and thunder and then the steady and gentle rain began, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of all those Kindergartners, Pre-K’s, 1st Graders and up to High School, their teachers and parents! Who isn’t excited to begin a new school year? Without a minute to spare, the Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club came through again. Helping the community is what they’re all about.

One ingenious Lion came up with the idea of a fund raiser a few months ago, a Golf Cart Poker Run! Doesn’t sound too kid oriented? On the contrary, this Lion thought, “Why not have a fund raiser to earn money to buy school supplies for our students on the Peninsula?” Never thinking that this fund raiser would stimulate this much revenue, the Poker Run more than tripled in applicants on the day of the ride. Not to mention how much fun everyone had, the silent auction rocked with donations and the money came tumbling in.

Working with Galveston Target and Office Depot, the BP Lions Club was able to fund school supplies and/or $$ to both High Island and Crenshaw students, Pre-K through 8th Grade. A check was delivered to High Island early last week and the final school supplies were delivered to Crenshaw Monday, along with a check to finalize the Lions Club’s obligation to those students. On the average, each student received $40+ from the Lions Club.

A big thanks to Target and Manager Jesse Lauritz for all the help in assembling school supplies for PreK through 8th grade.

Crenshaw teachers and staff show their appreciation for the boxes and boxes of school supplies.
