Alex Garza, Michael Comeaux, and Shannon O’Brien tied for first place on the Par 3 course at the Ranch Tuesday afternoon. On the first playoff hole, all three sank lengthy birdie putts to move on. After Garza bogied the second playoff hole and Comeaux was faced with a 10 foot par putt, O’Brien calmly sank a 20 footer for birdie to win the Par 3 contest. Mike VanZandt hacked his way to a season high 34.
On Thursday, it was more of the same as Shannon O’Brien and David Buchanan tied for first with 5 over par 32’s. No playoff Thursday because of the gambling format, but Mike VanZandt continued to struggle with another season high 35.
On Friday, six locals once again visited Chambers County Golf Course for some friendly competition. Mike Mitchell dominated the first nine with a nifty 40 but couldn’t keep it together on the back side, shooting a parless 48 that included three double bogies and six bogies. Mitchell’s 88 beat O’Brien by one shot and Mike Comeaux and Dennis Whitmer’s pair of 90’s by two shots. David Buchanan, who is winging his way to Saudi Arabia for a vacation after a grueling six months of golf and fishing, shot a 92. Big winner was yours truly who battled back from two horrible Par 3 scores this week to shoot 42-39 and win by a hefty seven strokes. VanZandt’s 39 was highlighted by birdies on both par 3’s on the back side as he continued his dominance at the Chambers County venue for the second week in a row.
