I know I’ve said this before, but what an amazing Community! We have such a hodge podge of folks: retirees, young families, middle class families, some working on the Peninsula, some commuting to Galveston, League City, even Houston. And some, like we used to do, some spending weekends here, then going home to their weekly work schedules. I think it was Christmas, and I went to the Post Office to mail my bundle of Christmas cards. I knew I had left off some addresses, so I was standing there, going through the stack and the Postal Clerk, I think it was Celeste, or possibly Debbie, was spouting out PO box numbers for me, just off the top of her head. She even spotted some I had wrong and helped me correct those. If you come up there with your yellow card which indicates you have a package, you don’t have to tell her the number on the box, she just takes the card and goes to get the package!
What has most recently hit my heart about “home,” is the outpouring of kindness for an individual member of the community. The recent benefit for Nancy Morgan. All these people with nothing else to do but give, give and give some more! We only got to spend an hour or so there on Saturday, before we headed to two other events in Houston, but those were the most fulfilling hours of the day. The crowd at Tiki was thicker than the Mardi Gras crowd, Nancy watching from her RV in the parking lot, where she was being cared for medically. I’ve heard the event was a spectacular success and Nancy is over in Clear Lake receiving her first treatments, all the result of these folks, this community … just loving you Nancy!
This is exactly what I love about the Bolivar—the minute I can retire–It’s where I want to spend my years..I sit at my desk all the way up here on Long Island, and each week read the Crystal Beach news–I look forward to Tuesdays–and to read this story, You are all truly blessed to be a part of that community!!!
