Plan a trip to the library

The AARP Library is open 10am-2pm Tuesday through Friday at The Joe Faggard Community Center. Find a book, borrow it, enjoy it, bring it back, and get another. If you have some books around the house and would like to donate them, please bring them by – the AARP ladies will find a place for them. Next time you see Charlotte, Terry, Fran, Donna, Karen or Patsy, tell them thanks or give them a pat on the back. The library at The Joe Faggard Community Center is stocked, straightened, dusted and organized lovingly by each and every one of them! And, they have a good time doing it!

I have a wonderful book about Bolivar Peninsula that I will donate to you if you like. Short background: My family spent parts of three summers in the Port Bolivar (1970-ish) beach area when we were teens and still have great memories of those days. Our friends, the Salims, from Beaumont had a cabin there, so we did a lot of beach stuff, fishing and crabbing. Those buildings are now gone after Hurricane Ike!

Anyway, the book is “They Made Their Own Law-Stories of Bolivar Peninsula” by Melanie Wiggins. In it she collects in-person accounts of life on the peninsula from early 1900’s and later. She also reviews the human history from native Americans to settlers and pirates. It is paperback and in very good condition. The spine is still glued tightly! I am happy to mail it to you.

    Sincerely,
    Karen A. Knight

I have a friend who has a collection of books published by the Texas Folklore Society he has accumulated over many years. They are downsizing. Is it alright if I just bring them by for y’all sometime in the near future.
