Dedication of the Jane Long Memorial, a brand new Gateway project, will be held on October 13, the opening day of the Jane Long Festival. The memorial will consist of a monument, historical markers and three flagpoles flying the U.S. Flag, Texas Flag and the wonderful Jane Long Petticoat Flag. The pavilion-like area at the entrance to Fort Travis, right off Hwy. 87 will include benches and pavers. The Galveston County Road & Bridge Dept. is working on the Memorial at this time.
Paver Project is a fundraiser
The Jane Long Society of the Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation is selling engraved pavers for the area as a fundraiser. The purchaser can personalize a paver brick to remain forever at the monument.
The initial offering will be at a reduced donation for the benefit of peninsula residents and all Bolivar-loving friends. A special price of $50 per paver is offered for orders received before October 12. On Oct. 13, a new, yet-to-be-determined cost for a paver will be announced and they can be ordered at the festival for the new price.
