Galveston, Texas

…three days in a row! Geez, I ride that ferry so much, I ought to apply to be a Captain! I have to admit though, I really do enjoy the peace and quiet. That’s an exaggeration, because all those announcements about “where to muster,” “which ferry we’re on,” and then at the end, “everyone get back to your car.” All I want to do is read my book! As soon as we load and I turn off the engine, I turn off the radio too so I can read in silence. I must admit, I’m able to tune out the rest of the world once we board. I’m not even extremely bothered when they shove me way over to the side. It’s not like my car is overly large, sometimes I wish it was. If it’s terribly rough, I regret when they let me go up to the front. Then, I have to hit the $5 car wash when I get home to wash the salt water off.

When we go to church on Sunday morning, my husband makes sure I have my Missal and my “book!” He’ll hand me my book and he’ll grab his crossword puzzle. Makes me wonder if he just doesn’t want me to talk to him. Hmmmm … … …

Monday morning was my 6-month check up at the Doctor’s office. Speaking of the ferry, I happened to bring my Boarding Pass to him to sign. First thing he said to me was, “so this is the only reason you like to come visit me!” Well, as it turns out, it was time and he’s such a good guy to do this for me. And yes, it is one of the perks!

After my appointment, I ventured to the Strand to do a little “early morning, get in there while the parking’s good and there’s nobody out shopping” experience. I’m terrible at parallel parking, so at 10am, it’s a perfect time to just slip into a parking space. My main reason for this expedition was to go to LaKing’s. Surprise, Surprise! They didn’t open until 11am, so I just had to look around for somewhere else to go waste some time. No problem, plenty of places to go “get into trouble.”

One store I went into had one thing I had to purchase right off the bat! Another thing, the cutest shirt for one of my grands, but didn’t have her size. No problem, I just found it online.

I wasted so much time talking with the young lady working there about books, I was late getting to LaKing’s. By the time I finished picking out several gifty things for my peeps, the store was packed. Paid and hurried back to the ferry just in time to catch the noon.

Ah, peace and quiet to spend with my book before heading into work.

Do yourself a favor, find a book and READ! It has to be the most relaxing and best escape imaginable!
