Birding Activities

by Jim Stevenson
We have  a few activities planned for those interested.  Please contact me below if you’re interested.

Monday, April 30 to Thursday, May 3 will be a second Spring Migration Photo Phantastic, if numbers allow. It will be the same experience as 4/23-26, and will actually have a better chance for certain species of late-migrating songbirds. $350

Saturday, May 5 is our Galveston West End field trip, from Laffite’s Cove to San Luis Pass. Emphasis will be on songbird and shorebird migrants, and hand-held cameras are welcomed, as many photo ops will be available. Meet at Jim&Liz’s at 8 am and birding ends late afternoon (you can leave when you need to). $30

Sunday, May 6 is our wonderful, season-ending Big Thicket Trip. We drive to Kountz and up to Kirby Trail, a delicious, deep woods walk through various ecological settings. Jim teaches all about the ecology of hydric, mesic and xeric soils, there are birds singing in every direction and reptiles&amphibians are plentiful. We go to lunch at Mama Jack’s Buffet, with fresh veggies (country cooking) galore, and then return to the BT to walk Sun Dew Trail, with insectivorous plants in the piney woods. Return before supper. $50
