“The ANIMALS of God’s creation inhabit the skies, the earth, the sea, and have a part in human life. We, therefore, invoke God’s blessing on these ANIMALS over all the earth.” St. Francis
Bay Vue United Methodist Church (UMC) held their annual BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS on Saturday, November 7, 2020. This year was a drive through event. Marcel Elissalde was in charge of setting up and taking down the tent and chairs in the church parking lot. LB Hunt greeted guests and directed them to the correct spot. Elinor Tinsley kept a record of guests and pets. Sandi Covington greeted everyone and wrote pet names on special Blessing cards. Always helpful George Strong took care of handing out goodies to the loved pets. Everyone helped with clean up at the end.
Pastor Valerie Hudson created special cards for all of the pets. She prayed over each animal: “Blessed are you, Lord God, who made every living thing: the creatures of the sea, the birds of the air, the livestock, wild animals and the pets we hold dear. Thank you for this dear pet (name of pet). We thank you for its life and for the love and joy it brings. Bless this creature and let our loving care for it be a reflection of your loving nature. Lord, watch over those who live with this pet. Bless them as they enjoy and care for it daily. Thank you for your creations and your care, Loving God. Amen.”
Pastor Hudson blessed 16 dogs, 2 horses and 1 cat. The horses were brought by Lisa and Ethan Stackpoole of Crystal Corral. Dogs received a bag of doggie treats. Ribbon, the cat, had a bag of dry cat kibbles and a toy mouse. Horses Princess Peach and Lexie gobbled down peppermints. All attendees rejoiced at this eighth annual BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS.
“One day, we will see our ANIMALS again in the eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures.” Pope Francis
