GALVESTON — State officials have extended the deadline for local governments, coastal residents and interest groups to submit comments about the proposed beach building setback rules.
Kroger is starting a new way (easier way) to raise funds for organizations. They are now linking the organization to your Plus Card. So you won’t have to pull out the little paper card, it will automatically be calculated when you scan your Plus Card for the discounts you are already receiving.
The Band Boosters earned about $400 last year. We are hoping to raise more now that it’s a simpler program. Please take a minute to visit the website and see if it’s something you can do. Here’s the link: http://www.krogerneighbortoneighbor.com/pdf/10000082027.pdf
You print out the letter and take it with you if you shop at Kroger. Give the letter and your plus card to the cashier and they will update your card. This is a ONE TIME THING!!! Then, each time you shop at Kroger a portion of the sales goes towards the Soundpower Booster Club!!!!
Chris is in the West Brook High School band and Cody is heading there next year. Below is a link to Kroger savings for the band. If you will print the letter and take it to Kroger (if you shop there) the checker can scan it and each time you shop at Kroger, West Brook band (Sound Power) will receive a portion of the sales for the booster fund. The band is going to London, England for the New Years Day Parade, Jan 2010. Both of my boys will be attending this trip. We have lots of money to raise before that date. This is will not cost you anything at all but a few extra minutes at the check out lane. Thanks.

Johnson Speaker at TAAO & ICTA Conference in Dallas
Galveston County Tax Assessor Collector Cheryl E. Johnson will present a class to fellow tax professionals at the 69th Annual TAAO and ICTA Conference and Expo in Dallas, Texas on August 26.This year’s conference, entitled the Legacy of Leadership, will connect leaders of the past with industry leaders of the future. TAAO (Texas Association of Assessing Officers) is an organization of property tax professionals whose purpose is to establish standards in the industry.ICTA (Institute of Certified Tax Administrators) is a division of TAAO whose primary objective is to set and maintain high standards of education and performance of its members.TAAO is one of only a few State organizations that provide classes and training to persons in the property tax industry. Due to her various successes communicating with Galveston County property owners, Johnson was asked to share her efforts with other tax professionals in the State.Printed materials she has developed over the last four years along with her activity throughout county communities will be included in her program entitled “Taxpayer Communications.” “If even one tax professional walks away with a new respect for the importance of sharing information with their citizens, the program will be successful,” stated Johnson.“Being the tax collector provides daily opportunities to share knowledge and information that benefits our customers. We are no longer the Roman soldiers riding into town with swords drawn ready to take gold and livestock from our villagers. It is truly possible to be both a tax collector and friend of taxpayers.I hope to teach other tax collectors how to achieve this wonderful balance.” More than 450 property tax professionals are expected at the conference.

A seagull in Marinette , WI has developed the habit of stealing Doritos from a neighborhood convenience store. The seagull waits until the Manager isn't looking, and then walks into the store and grabs a snack-size bag of cheese Doritos. Once outside, the bag gets ripped open and shared by other birds. The seagull's' shoplifting started early this month when he first swooped into the store in Marinette , WI , and helped himself to a bag of Doritos.Since then, he's become a regular. He always takes the same type of chips. The Manager thinks it's great because people are coming to watch the feathered thief make the daily grab and run, and that's good for business, and especially since customers have begun paying for the seagull's stolen bags of Doritos because they think it's so funny. However, the Manager did say, 'This is Wisconsin , and if that seagull starts to grab a 6-pac to go along with the Doritos, I may have to put a stop to it.

Boudreaux was sitting in the City Bar in Maurice, La. one Saturday night, and had several beers under his belt. After awhile, he looks at the guy sitting next to him, and asks him, "Hey, you wanna hear a good Aggie joke, you?
The big guy replies, "Let me tell you something. I'm an oilfield roughneck, I weigh 270 pounds, and I don't like Cajuns. "My buddy here is a pro football player, weighs 300 pounds, and he doesn't like Cajuns either. "His friend on his other side, is a professional wrestler, weighs 320 pounds, always has a chip on his shoulder, and he likes Cajuns even less than we do. And we are all Aggies. Now - Do you really want to tell us an Aggie joke?"
Boudreaux, all 150 pounds of Cajun attitude, says, "Well, I guess not. After all, I don't wanna have to explain it tree times!"
