Rollover Closure Stalled
Ed
Snyder/Outdoors
August,
Gilchrist, TX.
According
to the Gilchrist Community Assn; meeting of July 12, 2010 the closing of RolloverPass, tentatively scheduled for late
summer of 2011, has been stalled.
The
Texas Historical commission and the Galveston County Historical Commission have
put a temporary hold on this closing until they’ve completed a series of
studies and surveys on RolloverPass (FishPass).
The
surveys will be on the importance of Rollover as a public fishing center,
tourism attraction, entertainment entity, and its financial impact for the
beachside communities of Gilchrist, BolivarPeninsula, and GalvestonCounty.
RolloverPass,
located 8miles south of HighIsland on Hwy 87, became a casualty of Hurricane Ike
2 years ago, then again when the Government Land Office for the state of Texas ruled to close the
pass due to erosion problems that cost one million dollars annually for
dredging.
The
beachside community of Gilchrist, and its governing organization, the Gilchrist
Community Assn; (GCA), was practically destroyed by Ike and have been fighting
this closure, and the reason for it, since the state ruling.
“We
need the revenue created by RolloverPass to help rebuild our
community, stated the GCA, and the approximately 80,000 people who choose to
visit annually needs it as they have for the past 54 years. Our beaches here
are untouched by the BP Oil and the fishing here at the Pass is FREE and OPEN
to the public.

Promise of the Spirit
"And Peter replied,
'Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name
of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive
this gift, the Holy Spirit. For Christ promised Him to each one of you who has
been called by the Lord our God and to your children and even those in distant
lands!'" (Acts 2:38- 39).
The most important truth
that I or anyone else could share with Christians is to help them understand
the person and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. My own life was dramatically
transformed when by faith I claimed the fullness and power of the Holy Spirit.
"One day in New York - what a
day!" declared Dwight L. Moody. "I can't describe it. I seldom refer
to it. It is almost too sacred for me to name. I can only say that God revealed
Himself to me. I had such an experience of love that I had to ask Him to stay
His hand.
"I went to preaching
again. The sermons were no different. I did not present any new truth. Yet
hundreds were converted. I would not be back where I was before that blessed
experience if you would give me Glasgow."
The Holy Spirit is the key
to revival. He is the key to revival because He is the key to supernatural living,
and apart from living supernaturally - living in the fullness of the Holy
Spirit - the believer has no power to introduce others to Christ and help
fulfill the Great Commission.
The Holy Spirit is
convicting many Christians of their lethargy, their coldness of heart and
unbelief, the loss of their first love. A spiritual Mount
St. Helens is about to erupt, spreading the good news of love and
forgiveness of our Lord Jesus Christ far and wide through our land and the
world. We shall see a resurgence in evangelism and a zeal unparalleled in
church history as we endeavor - in the power of the Holy Spirit - to help
fulfill the Great Commission.

CAJUN CORNER
Pierre and Boudreaux Go
Fishing
Pierre
and Boudreaux went fishing in Pierre's
boat but were not doing very good.
They came across Alphonse in a boat loaded with
fish. Pierre
asked Alphonse what his secret was. Alphonse said, "Jes go out through
that pass over dere until the water gets fresh. Stop dere and drop yer
line."
All excited, Pierre
fired up the motor and headed through the pass.
When they got a little ways out, he told Boudreaux
to fill up a bucket and taste the water. Boudreaux complied and said,
"It's still salty, Pierre!"
Pierre went further out and told
Boudreaux to taste the water again. Boudreaux said the same thing, "It's
still salty, Pierre!"
This went on for hours and it was starting to get
dark, and they were in the middle of nowhere, when Pierre said to taste the water one last time.
Boudreaux replied, "But Pierre, there's no
more water in the bucket!"
