May 31st, Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day
of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. It is about
reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.
Traditional observance of Memorial Day has diminished over the years. Many
Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day.
At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored or
neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the
day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades,
many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for
honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.
To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day,
the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed by
Congress in 2000. The resolution asks that at 3 p.m. local time, all Americans,
"voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a moment of
remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of
silence or listening to 'Taps."
Please take a moment this Memorial Day to remember those who have fallen while
serving our country. We would not be FREE without their service.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the
sacrifice of so many brave men and women who have gone before us.
Let's face it - we wouldn't enjoy the many
blessings we have had it not been for the courage and wisdom of great leaders
in our country.
Sir Isaac Newton said, "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the
shoulders of giants."

Plans in place to protect Galveston from oil
GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- While the oil is still far
away from our side of the Gulf of Mexico, it's still anyone's guess what the
situation will be like months from now. In Galveston on Tuesday, local officials
discussed what kind of response there would be, if that growing spill inches
this way.

Hope For The Best, Prepare For The Worst
The
huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is at least 150 miles from the Texas coast
and appears to be headed toward Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, but Texas
officials are talking about how to respond in the event that changes.
Everyone knows BP's "top
kill" failed and the newest attempt to stop the leak has been given a
"slight" chance of success. Now, attention is slowly turning to a
worst case scenario.
Now,
attention is slowly turning to a worst case scenario. The only tried and true
method of stopping the leak is a relief well, or kill well, that won't be ready
until August. Based on spill estimates, if the leak continues at its current
rate that would mean as much as 120 million gallons of oil in the Gulf two months
from now.

GALVESTON - There is no indication that oil from the BP
blowout off the LouisianaCoast is heading for Texas, but equipment and trained manpower
are ready to deal with it if it does, officials said Tuesday.

Houston region closer to large
storm surge project
By
ERIC BERGER; HOUSTON
CHRONICLE; May 31, 2010, 10:01PM
As Houston today enters its second hurricane season since Ike
devastated the region, there appears to be an increasing sense of urgency to
protect the upper Texas
coast from future storm surge events.
GALVESTON - With the federal government hanging a
no-fishing sign the size of Florida in the Gulf because of an epic oil spill,
Texas seafood wholesalers grapple with the scarcity of shrimp and an abundance
of fish.

A man named Muhammad
In an age of pluralism, most
people assume that all religions have equal access to heaven. One getting much
attention today is Islam.
Muhammad, the founder of
Islam, the world's youngest major religion, was born in Mecca between 570 and 580.
When he was forty, Muhammad
claimed that he received a prophetic call from Alah through the angel Gabriel.
He began preaching monotheism, a final judgment, alms, prayer, and surrender to
the will of Allah. Persecution in his hometown of Mecca
forced him to flee to Medina.
Traditionally dated to July 15, 622, that flight, or hegira, marks the
beginning of the Muslim calendar.
During his time in Medina, Muhammad's
revelations become more legalistic and more secular and Islam, as the new
religion was called, became a community and state with Muhammad as ruler and
lawgiver.
By the time he died on June 8, 632, almost all of Arabia embraced Islam. The successors to Muhammad
encouraged jihad, or holy war, against non-Muslims and within a century built
an empire stretching from Spain
all the way across North Africa to India.
In 1900 only 12 percent of
the world's population embraced Islam; by 2000 it had grown to 21 percent,
partly due to a higher birth rate. Islam is the majority religion in forty-two
countries and territories. Most of these countries prohibit Christian evangelism
and exclude Christian missionaries, yet since
1980 more Muslims have turned to Christ than in any earlier period in history.
Pray that the doors will open even wider and that many more will come to Christ..... while there is still time.

CATAMARAN RACE - GT300
TEAM HULLFLYINGis pleased to announce Eric Denys as the 2010 crew
member for this year's GT-300 Catamaran Dash Race Saturday June 19th.
Attached you will find information regarding this year's GT300.
TEAM HULLFLYINGis off to a great start with an excellent practice
sail this past Saturday in 15-20 MPH winds along the BolivarPeninsula.
Eric jumped into the trapeze and flew the wire for about 10 miles in
practice runs along the coast. You may recall from last years race that TEAM HULLFLYINGnearly
lost crew member Kenny Eaves when the trapeze wire malfunctioned as he began to
hike out on the wire. TEAM HULLFLYINGpit crews have since evaluated the situation and
made the necessary modifications for this years GT300 Dash race.
The
excitement starts around 8AM Saturday morning at Stahlman park in Surfside when
the GT 300 crews begin readying their boats for the 40 mile race up to Galveston. The horn
blasts sharply at 9AM for the GT300 Dash and the GT300 long distance boats
start at 10AM. Bring a camera, bring some refreshments and join us for a
picture perfect day along the Galveston
shoreline. It will be a spectacular sight to see when 30 or so brightly
colored catamarans get ready to start the race at StahlmanPark
in Surfside. If you miss the start then be sure to catch them race
towards the EastBeach
finish along the Galveston
seawall.

The TriCity Corvette Club rolled through BolivarPeninsula
last weekend. They were escorted in from
HighIsland to Stingaree Restaurant where
they enjoyed a light lunch and visited with those enjoying the 1st Annual
Bolivar Slam.
From there, they tarried over to Boyt Rd where they were hosted by Lynn
and Brad Metz for the second year in a row. There were approximately 24 corvettes and 50
people throughout the afternoon.
The event is also used as a fundraiser for scholarship
funds; and the funds continue to grow each year. This year, The TriCity
Corvette Club gave 2, $2500 scholarships to area seniors to help them start
their college years.
The event was catered by Harris & Pam Eaton of
Eaton Meats in Nederland
with Brisket, chicken, stuffed chicken breast, boudain, links, & potato sald
was enjoyed by all. The club is already looking
forward to next years beach run. Cant wait to see how many corvettes roll thru
Crystal Beach next year.

Boudreaux say, "Thibodeaux, I know xactly how to get rid of dem rats. You

Boudreaux explains, "man. dats one of dem big ole snakes and he loves to

Well, da nex day Thibodeaux went down to Kliberts reptile farm and bought him
