Oil glob found on beach this Monday morning near east of Emerald I Beach

Officials from NOAA have been notified.  The oil mass was taken from its location along with other small oil masses found.  GLO official seems to think these are from the tanker that sunk in the Sabine River a few weeks ago.  However, when you are out on the beaches and locate other oil masses, please notify one of the phone #'s listed.

Looks like clear sailing for those on the Bolivar Texas Gulf Coast.  But beware of the oil globs washing ashore.  We were in the clear for a short time anyway.  This beautiful picture was sent in by Mark Hunstiger in Port Bolivar.  This just goes to show how picture perfect the days really are here.  The Texas Gulf Coast had been spared by this great oil spill, just keep aware of what is washing ashore.  This and other shrimp boats around the area have been bringing in the bounty.  Yes, we are blessed for a season!!

All in all, it has been a quite week.  Let's see how this week fares with the BUNCO ladies meeting in Port Bolivar.

We are pleased to report that construction on the new Eagles Aerie 3719 home is off the ground!  On Saturday May 7th structural crews were onsite erecting the metal posts for the new Aerie home.  This is an exciting time for Aerie 3719 members as well as prospective members.  We look forward to much more progress in the next few weeks.

Texas Crab Festival's 25th Anniversary

This is a very special year for us since this is the Texas Crab Festival's 25th Anniversary!  The Texas Crab festival was started 25 years ago to promote tourism on Bolivar Peninsula. Since blue crabs are usually plentiful in spring and summer the committee chose to honor the "blue crab"

The Crab festival has grown in attendance of up to 10,000. There are food & craft booths, crab legs contest, Texas Crab Fest wiener dog nationals, crab races, rides/games, carnival, volleyball and horseshoes tournaments, and a kid's stage with free entertainment and fun activities for the "little crabbies!"
So come out and enjoy some of the tastiest crab & seafood dishes on the Texas Gulf Coast or find the perfect gift among the many treasures offered by talented local artists, both professional and amateur vendors. Just pull up a patch of grass, sit back in your own lawn chair and enjoy some of the best live music in the Lone Star State!
The proceeds of the Crab Festival go to the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Not only does the chamber promote tourism for local businesses, they also do service projects such as scholarship programs, participate in many civic projects and help keep the beaches clean. Despite the devastation of Hurricane Ike in 2008 and with the resilience of the community the Crab Festival goes on.

Birth of a Nation

In 63 B.C. the Roman armies invaded the land of Israel and made it part of the Roman Empire. Then Jesus came, and in response to the Jews' rejection of him as their Messiah, he predicted that the Jewish temple would be completely destroyed (Luke 21:6), a prediction fulfilled in A.D. 70. After a second revolt in A.D. 135, no Jews lived in Jerusalem, and they became scattered through the world.

Then in the late 1800s, in response to anti-Semitism, particularly in eastern Europe, a Jewish movement called Zionism arose. In 1917 in an attempt to win Jewish support for World War I, England issued the Balfour Declaration, supporting the creation "in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people."

Following War World II, Britain turned the matter of a Jewish state to the newly created U.N., which voted on November 29, 1947 to endorse a plan to create separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem as an international zone.

The British Mandate was scheduled to end on May 15, 1948, at which time their troops would begin leaving. The day before, a historic meeting was held in Tel Aviv. At exactly 4:00 p.m. the meeting was called to order by David Ben-Gurion. The audience rose and sang "Hatikvah," the Israeli national anthem. Then Ben-Gurion read in Hebrew Israel's Declaration of Independence. Everyone in the audience stood to their feet and applauded, many with tears streaming down their faces. For the first time in two thousand years there was an independent Jewish state of Israel.

The very existence of present-day Israel is a reminder to us of God's faithfulness in keeping his promises. (Ezekiel 37:1-13)

CAJUN CORNER

Boudreaux & the Elevator:

One day Boudreaux, his wife Clotile, and Boudreaux's friend, Pierre went to the city.

While Clotile went shopping, Boudreaux & Pierre decided to go check out one of them tall buildings.

Inside the building, Boudreaux & Pierre came to these big golden doors.

Boudreaux says, "Wonda wot dees doors lead to?".

So Boudreaux & Pierre stare at the doors for a few minutes until an old woman comes up to the doors. She pushes a button near the door, the doors open, she goes inside, & the doors close.

Boudreaux & Pierre watch as numbers above the door start to change from "1" to "2" to "3", then the numbers stop a while then change again from "3" to "2" to "1". Then the doors open and a beautiful young voluptuous woman walks out!

Boudreaux tells Pierre, "Mais you saw dat!? Hurry up--lets go find Clotile so we can put her in dere!"
