The CORP of Engineers is planning on approving a permit
to close RolloverPass pending any valid
objections to the contrary before April 12, 2010. As our next meeting is
regularly scheduled for April 5, the day after Easter, the Board has decided to
move the meeting to next Monday night,
March 29th, 2010 at the HighIslandFirstBaptistChurch,
7:00pm. We will be discussing what we can do to possibly postpone the
deadline for this permit approval. We realize it will be difficult for
some people to attend due to the lateness of this notice, but hope to see you
there.

BE AWARE OF SCAM ON PENINSULA
The Galveston County Health District
(GCHD) was contacted by the USEPA concerning a potential scam being perpetrated
on Bolivar. There is some "letter" telling people that they will be
required by the County to have a lead inspection of their home and for $50 a
visual inspection can be completed by the sender of the letter. The County does
not require any such test. Please have anyone who has received this letter to
forward it to me by e-mail or FAX (409) 766 4510 so the GCHD/County can address
this issue.
Thanks, Garret Foskit

Finding God in Russia
In the 1930s Stalin ordered
a purge of all Bibles and all believers. In
Stravropol, Russia, this order was carried out
with a vengeance. Thousands of Bibles were confiscated, and multitudes of
believers were sent to the gulags where most died for being "enemies of
the state."
Years later, CoMission sent
a team to Stavropol.
When the team was having difficulty getting Bibles shipped from Moscow, someone mentioned
the existence of a warehouse outside of town where these confiscated Bibles had
been stored since Stalin's day.
After much prayer by the
team, one member finally got up the courage to go to the warehouse and ask the
officials if the Bibles were still there...The answer was, "Yes!"
The next day The CoMission
team returned with a truck and several Russian people to help load the Bibles.
One helper was a young man - a skeptical, hostile, agnostic collegian who had
come only for the day's wages. As they were loading Bibles, one team member
noticed that the young man had disappeared. He had slipped away, hoping to
quietly take a Bible for himself. What he found shook him to the core.
The inside page of the Bible
he picked up had the handwritten signature of his own grandmother. It had been
her personal Bible. Out of the thousands of Bibles still left in the warehouse,
he stole the one belonging to this grandmother - a woman persecuted for her faith
all her life. He was found weeping - God was real.

trim work, painting, roofing and many other projects that needed tending to
since the storm.There was another

repaired on his home, so they helped out on that project. Then at 1303 Madison in Port Bolivar there was some refurbish

progress with various Ike recovery programs. We hope you can attend. Thank you.

PM at Crenshaw Elementaryto update BolivarPeninsula
residents on various Ike recovery projects.
It has been 18 months since Hurricane Ike devastated the peninsula, destroying
3,600 homes, severely damaging the ferry landing and RolloverPassBridge, and devastating
public infrastructure. Public meetings have been held every couple of months to
help keep citizens informed of debris cleanup, water and power restoration,
road repairs and other response activities. Thelong
process of obtaining grant funds through the federal and state governments is
nearly complete, and many projects beneficial to the peninsula are finally
under way. County officials will brief citizens on these
projects at the March 23 meeting, and then take questions."As we have with previous meetings on the
peninsula, we will reserve most of the meeting time for questions and answers,"
said County Commissioner Pat Doyle, who has spearheaded the peninsula recovery
projects along with County Judge Jim Yarbrough. "We have made significant
progress, no doubt, but much remains to be done." The
Community Development Block Grant housing program, the Hazard Mitigation Grant
Program for buyouts, and CDBG infrastructure repairs all will be discussed. In
addition, an update will be provided on the ongoing Bolivar Blueprint long-term
recovery process, which will result in some exciting projects
beneficial to citizens and visitors alike.

What to consider when designing a beach house:

BolivarPeninsula ~ Building a home is a
challenge.Building a home that you have
lost through a disaster is even more of a challenge.Yet, the challenge is staring those of BolivarPeninsula in the face today.
There are many things to consider when starting off on this little adventure.
Deciding on a basic floor plan is the first of many steps that you will need to
go through in order to get the best overall deal for yourself.A great finished product starts with a great
foundation.
*Think of Future ~ Is this a house you plan to
live in forever or just a few years and then sell? If it's a home that
you plan to grow old in then you will want to make a more flexible living
environment that could accommodate walkers or wheelchairs without to much extra
construction in the future. Plan for where a possible
elevator could be located. Beach houses have lots of stairs!
*Size of furniture ~ If you already have
furniture that you absolutely love, giving the designer those measurements can
help make sure your room sizes aren't too large or small to accommodate for the
furniture in the design stage.
*Budget ~ Budget will determine the types of
finishes you will be able to choose from. It will be the difference not
only in sq. ft. but also laminate vs. solid surface countertops, polished brass
vs. brushed nickel fixtures and carpet vs. laminate wood floors. We
always recommend building a sturdy structure first though to take all the
precautions make sure your home can survive the next storm.
*Window and door placement ~ This is
surprising a very import step in determining how your interior design will
flow. Putting doors in the middle of walls doesn't always lend to the
best furniture arrangement. Putting floor to ceiling windows in the
bedrooms can block valuable wall space. Remember that they not only
need to be astatically pleasing from the outside but need to function as part
of the room on the inside.
*Will you have a garage ~ The pilings will
need to be spaced far enough apart to accommodate not just a car but leave you
able to open the doors when you pull in the garage without hitting a
piling.
*Style of the home ~ What type of architecture
do you like? The more elaborate the exterior is the more expensive it
will be to build
Here
is a list of what to consider when coming up with the design of a beach house.
*Full-time or Rental ~ What is the house going
to be used for, full time living, weekend home, or rental? Each of these
different types would have different storage requirements.
*Room locations ~ Bathrooms at the beach are a
high traffic room. Do you want sand being dragged throughout the house.
*Accommodations ~ How many people are going to
be living at the home or going to be sleeping in the home? If you don't
have city service your septic tank will need to be large enough to accommodate
for everyone with no problems. You will need to plan for beds for
everyone as well as bathrooms with flexible considerations to have more then
one person occupying the bathroom at one time.
*Outdoor Space ~ What do you plan to use the
outdoor space for? If you are wanting to have a dining table on the deck
or chaise lounges, you will want to make sure you have enough room to
easily walk around them

Boudreaux and Thibodaux
used to work in a sugar cane plant down by New Iberia. After the harvest they cook dat sugar cane
into syrup. When dat's done the plant shut down for months at a time. A few
people work full time on cleaning up the plant and maintenance. The rest of the
employees either live off the land, trapping, shrimping, or fishing. Like
Boudreaux and Thibodaux.
But the shrimp was not running good dat year and dey got bored.
Boudreaux say, "Thib, I heard that they are
hiring down at NASA in Houston.
Lets go see if we can get a full time job there."Thibodaux
say, "Ok, lets go."
Boudreaux and Thibodaux
go down to the personnel office at NASA and sit in line. After a while the
personnel officer come out to the waiting room and ask Boudreaux to come in the
office and sit down. The personnel
officer ax, "What is your name?" Boudreaux say, "mais, Boudreaux."
The personnel officer ax, "What do you do for
a living, Mr. Boudreaux?"
Boudreaux say, "Me, I'm a pile-it."
The personnel officer say, "A pilot? We got
lots of pilots here at NASA. You are hired. Be here first thing in the
morning."Boudreaux got so excited
he jumps out of dat chair and run out to Thibodaux
and say, "Get in there fast. They are giving away dem jobs left and
right."
After a while the personnel officer come out to the
waiting room and ask Thibodaux
to come in the office and sit down. The
personnel officer ax, "What is your name?" Thibodaux say,
"Mais, ma nem is, Thibodaux."
The personnel officer ax, "What do you do for
a living, Mr. Thibodaux?"
Thibodaux say, "I'm. a sugar
cane cutter from South Louisiana."
The personnel officer ax, "A sugar cane cutter
from South Louisiana? We ain't got no jobs at
NASA for sugar cane cutters."Thibodaux say, "You
hired Boudreaux." The personnel officer say, "Boudreaux is a
pilot?"
Thibodaux say, "Well he can't
pile-it until after I cut it."
Well, Boudreaux and Thibodaux got lucky and got a job at NASA
anyway. But they got fired the next day. Because every time the PA system says
"Launch." Boudreaux and Thibodaux
take out their lunch box and start eating.
