 34 Housing Bids submitted;

 28 Accepted;

  and 5 selected

Request for Proposal #B101007 (Galveston County Housing Construction) and Request for Qualifications #B101008 (Galveston County Reconstruction) was published on December 29, 2009 and January 5, 2010 in the Galveston Daily News.  The deadline to file for RFP and RFQ was January 21, 2010.  Sources say 34 bids were submitted in all; 28 accepted and only 5 selected.   Judge Yarbrough announced last Wednesday in Commissioner's Court who the bid awards went to. They are as follows:

Compass Pointe Homes, Spring TX

American Home Star, League City TX

American Home Builders, Georgia

Sulllivan Land Service Galveston, TX

Promenade Homes, Houston, TX

This week's promise: We are created in His image

When was the last time you really looked deep into the night sky?

The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship.

Psalm 19:1 NLT

Explore the wonder

The story is told of a remarkable rabbi named Abraham Heschel. Several years before his death he suffered a massive heart attack, and he was sure he would die. His best friend sat by his side. Rabbi Heschel whispered to his friend, "Sam, I feel only gratitude for my life, for every moment I have lived. I am ready to go. I have seen so many miracles during my lifetime."

Exhausted, the old rabbi leaned back in his bed to catch his breath. After a long pause, he said, "Sam, never once in my life did I ask God for success or wisdom or power or fame. I asked for wonder, and he gave it to me."

Everything about God and creation screams out thoughts of wonder and amazement. Any person who can stand before it and yawn is either dead and buried or might as well be. With God, boredom is not an option. King David cried out to God in song, "I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers-the moon and the stars you have set in place...the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents. O Lord, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth!" (Psalm 8:3; 8-9)

I'm one who believes there are no atheists in the world, only stubborn insubordinates. God's creation is his greatest evangelist. How sad that we so seldom stop to acknowledge its wonder.

RFP and RFQ request required for Housing Contractors

Maryanne Rogers spoke on behalf of the Bolivar Small Business Coalition and assured those selected, the Peninsula has several available sub-contractors and how cost efficient it would be for them to hire Bolivar sub-contractors.  Mr. Crowder discussed having a meeting on the Peninsula with the selected home builders who got the bid and anyone who would like to do sub work.  Anyone wanted to do sub-contracting work please sign up with BSBC so that we can keep you updated and informed.

Nuisance Abatement Program

Nuisance Abatement Program has issued violation notices to about 350 property owners and  filed 300 charges in JP6 concerning the properties that are still in violation. Those which have not been able to contact are having title searches done so that demolition of the properties can begin (each demo costs averages $3k-7k). Violations per Chap 343 of the Texas Health and Safety Code (damaged structures and debris only not high grass-the Health district will handle the grass issues 4099382300) pilings and slabs are not a violation.
In addition there are approximately 700+ buyout properties (50 structures to demo) and the 300 people trying to go through the GCHA for repairs and demolitions. Please call Gina @ 4097664517 with a list of addresses that are near you and in violation. She will tell you if they are being worked and their status.
