Goodbye February Sun! taken at sunset 2/28/2010.... Happy Birthday Kristen
This week's
promise: No temptation is too great
Do
you deeply mourn your sin, or choose cheap grace~and sin again?
Immediately
the Holy Spirit compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness. He was there for
forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was out among the wild animals, and
angels took care of him.Mark
1:12-13 NLT
Mourning our sins
Lord, who throughout these
forty days
For us didst fast and pray,
Teach us with Thee to mourn our sins,
And close by Thee to stay.
As Thou with Satan didst contend
And didst the victory win,
O give us strength in Thee to fight
In Thee to conquer sin. Lenten Hymn (v1,2),
CLAUDIA FRANCES HERNAMAN (1838-98)
We don't know a lot about
the forty days Jesus spent in the desert before His temptation. We know it was
a time of fasting and probably of prayer. When the devil came to Him, the
conquering words of Scripture were quick on Jesus' tongue, so it may have been
a time of meditation, a time of special communion with his Father.
This song draws the
comparison between Jesus' forty days in the desert and the forty days of Lent.
Traditionally, the Lenten season is a time of fasting. People "give
up" something for Lent. The idea is not to punish ourselves, but to put
aside something that may distract us from our communion with God. It is a time
for special devotion to God, a time when He may "abide with us" in a
special way. Lent is a time to refocus on our relationship with Christ.

The colors of Bolivar are getting
brighter and brighter. Lots of colour going on everyday, everywhere you
turn around. Looking forward to sharing
more colours with you soon.
Let the sky be your pallet of color to choose from.
Colored Houses I'm so glad to see
color to come back to the BolivarPeninsula. Driving from
Rollover into Crystal Beach one's eyes are dulled by the pale pastel colors. In
fog they blended almost into a depressive bland gray stew with hardly a carrot
floating in vision. Hardly a feeling suggestive of a vibrant beach to come; few
have trim paint accents that could sharpen their edges. Few realize the Midwest had red barns so you could see them in whiteout
blizzards. Fog happens here every winter.
Why don't some houses get painted one color on one side and another color
another side? One color might look good on the highway side because of the
background and with different colors when you drive up.
Another idea can be stolen from the ancients: One image one direction and
different imagine from the other? Little pyramids cut 60 degrees (45 degrees
isn't quite right) with different colors on each side would give you a color
change house as you drive by! It could be subtle like the color change in auto
paints or seriously zebra contrasted.
I recall comments on Holst's Tiki Art House colors on N. O'Neal before Rita:
Russet roof, cream walls with orange trim and doors. Then on the bayside we put
my black three piece 6-8' ladder sculpture used at the BPCF opening. Called
"Ma, Pa and Step Ladders" they were rescued after Ike and reinstalled
as a defiant statement that the "Bolivar is Back." Besides, what
artist can resist a blank space?
When you drive down the road next time think how a few different colors on
houses could change the landscape.
